This CBC news story describes the recruitment challenges faced by three large Ontario cities (Ottawa, Toronto and Hamilton) for the chief planning role. Municipal planning leaders face incredibly ambitious growth targets, extracted negotiations with federal and provincial governments, and increasingly confrontational public engagement sessions. But are these demanding issues any more or less different than those currently faced by health care leaders? Health care sector leaders across the country face incredibly tough challenges now and in the years ahead. Given the “grey tsunami” state of our workforce combined with the emerging era of rapid change in a very fluid landscape, who will want to step up and face increasingly intense public scrutiny?
