Since 2020, 116 ruralhospitals in the US have or are planning to close their labor and delivery (LD) units. Presently, only 41% (950) of the 2,396 hospitals with rural classification offer LD services. Of the remaining 950 hospitals, 127 (13%) are at risk of ending LD.
