Going out on a limb with this potentially controversial comment. I am “speaking up” not “calling anyone out”.
I am not a clinician, but why couldn’t Mr. King have the UTI diagnosed with point-of-care-testing followed up with home IV antibiotic infusion? This may have avoided paramedic transport; lengthy ER holding; in-patient admission; and diminished his risk of delirium.
It is almost 2025 and this is the way Mr. King would have been cared for in 1985. We can (and must) do better.
